I was also very impressed with Phil and his progress on the site with Paul, they were there every day and exceptionally reliable (even when it was snowing) - which I take my hat off to them for. As I was turning up most days to check on progress - it was very obvious they were working hard and diligently on this loft conversion and some other tidy up work within the house. Phil made some great recommendations along the way that we could tune the loft to something he was proud of and my wife and I we're amazed with.

Rosie - Thank you, the lady that just made things happen behind the scenes. Rosie was essential in letting Phil get on and build, with a quick call to Rosie action started happening in terms of delivery time slots and negotiations with vendors and suppliers. The result of Rosie’s back end work made it much smoother for Phil and co. on site, and to be honest, dealing with vendors and council meant I didn't have to chase them along either - Thanks Rosie.

All and All - I am over the moon with the conversion based on time taken, quality of finish, cost, quality of tradesman onsite and reliability and after build care. I would absolutely recommend A1 and Phil for future build work of this nature.”

“A1 were recommended to us through a friend of a friend and although not the cheapest they spent the time talking us through everything and listening to what we actually wanted to achieve. We paid our deposit and then had to put everything on hold during the ‘credit crunch’ as both our businesses went through consolidation processes. A1 were fantastic throughout and very patient with us!

Then our neighbours decided to object and the start date was put on hold whilst the dispute was resolved. Throughout, Melissa and Marilyn at A1 were very patient and sent out several extra letters reassuring our neighbours. Once the survey had been carried out and the party wall award was granted, A1 wasted no time in sending our project manager, Gene, to see us. Gene is a gentle giant and is so knowledgeable that there wasn’t even one aspect of detail that he couldn’t advise us on. Gene’s team came promptly every morning and worked hard throughout the day. At the end of every day, all the dust sheets were collected and the whole area hoovered. We couldn’t have asked for our place to be treated with more respect.

We really can’t remember life without the conversion - we managed to get a guest bedroom, shower room and study out of it and we absolutely love it! Already in the last two months, five guests have been to stay – and have wanted to come back!

One thing that other workmen commented on was the quality of the workmanship, the solid hardwood construction and the attention to detail. I must say I cannot recommend them highly enough!”

Having to have the ceilings lowered to give us the height necessary in the loft was quite an experience, particularly since it was during the coldest winter for 30 years, but the end result has made it all worth it.

Tom’s organisation of the work and his day to day control of the build has been really impressive and we can’t praise him and his team enough.

We have also been really impressed by Marek’s plastering – the curve on the ceiling under the new stairs is a work of art.

When we bought this house it needed a huge amount of work to convert it into a family home and the many bad experiences I have had with employing builders, plumbers and other tradesmen has meant that Carol and I ended up doing much of the work ourselves…

Our experiences with A1 have been entirely and refreshingly different. Gene, the site supervisor, always turned up exactly when he said that he would (often to the nearest minute!), he was methodical, a very careful planner, with high aesthetic standards and a meticulous attention to detail. He went to huge pains to minimise the disruption caused by the building work; some visitors thought the work hadn’t started yet! Having Gene and Misha working in our house has been so painless, and the pace of the work has been so rapid, that it has been as positively relaxing and exciting process seeing our extension and roof terrace appear.

I wasn’t looking forward to this building work but it has turned out to be an entirely enjoyable experience and the finished roof terrace and dormer are beautiful. I feel lucky to have been able to work with such an effective team and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending A1 to anybody considering a similar extension.”

He was utterly reliable, very friendly and totally professional in all his dealings. He also had good ideas to contribute to the build – his creativity added a lot to the project for us. Although Philip always said that it would take about 4 weeks, we found it hard to believe. This was partly due to our previous experience of builders and partly because we’d not seen other lofts done in that sort of time.
